Lou Lou’s Bar & Restaurant Review

It isn’t common to find a place that’s appropriate for birthday drinks, sport spectating, a romantic first date AND a lavish dining experience. Well, Lou Lou’s sets the perfect tone for pretty much any social or intimate setting in an atmosphere that is vibrant and comfortable as well as classy with a hint of “V.I.P”.

With elegant décor, exceptional food and the music volume rising as the evening progresses, this beautiful space is quickly becoming a “hot spot” in Cape Town.

We were invited for a dinner for two at this gem, situated in the Cape Quarter, on a breezy Saturday evening; the crowd was young and sophisticated and it’s clear that the summer deck, that is currently underway, is going to create an area for even more drinking and dining pleasure in the coming season!

The level of service can only be described as excellent, with orders arriving quickly and wine being topped up without notice.

We started with a plate of fluffy, fresh bread cubes served alongside 3 dips: butternut puree, babaganoush as well as hummus. All 3 dips were full of flavour and accompanied the bread in the most harmonious fashion.

We also ordered the seared tuna starter that was (to put it bluntly) out of this world! Dotted with Japanese spicy mayo and dusted with crunchy sweet potato sprinkles, this dish had us salivating for more!

We were then served our mains: the Wagyu beef burger and the 180g-fillet steak with steamed, long-stemmed broccoli. Both dishes were cooked to absolute perfection as per our requests, and it’s rare for me to not have to reluctantly send a steak back, as my preference is medium-to-well, which is really difficult to cook “just right”.

The mushroom sauce that the fillet was served upon was literally drinkable, the burger was full of juicy flavour and the fries beside it were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just as fries should be.

I’m not sure how we had space left for a chocolate brownie, but our eyes accommodated some room in our stomachs for a sweet piece of rich and velvety heaven.

All in all, the experience at Lou Lou’s can be simply defined as: “yum and fun”, regardless of the occasion.

I am so grateful to have been invited to dine at such a COOL place!
